As I watched the snow fall…

Storm Ciara came with rain and wind, then came the snow – January 10, 2020

Isaiah 55:10-11 NLT

[10] “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. [11] It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. …”

As I watched the snow fall on ground already well watered by the rain that came with storm Ciara I am captivated by snow flakes the size of feathers. They settle softly for a while and then melt away into the ground, to water the earth ready for the seasons of growth and flourishing in the spring and summer to come. In the same way God’s Word prayed, prophesied, sung and read feeds our souls waking our spirits and releasing new life in us for the time ahead. We may not perceive it instantly or fathom it’s how or why, but nevertheless God’s Word will work wonders in us.

Creator God we are in awe of the beauty of your creation. The simplicity of the white feather like snow flakes falling upon wet ground to refresh the earth for the new season of growth and flourishing ahead. Help us to hear and receive in our souls your Words of life, like the earth receives the rain and snow. Let us be nourished in the depths of our souls for the season of growth and flourishing ahead. Let Your Word prosper in us without hindrance and wherever you send it. Amen.

Threaded through History

This ancient, reluctantly spoken,

God given curse,

Invoked by deception,

Earth temporarily corrupted,

Human life severely disrupted,

Woe for womenkind,

Suffering, subjugation, submission,

No one listening,

Women’s gifting,

Suppressed, repressed,

Now dimly glistening,

Reality changed,

Men struggling to relate

To their God given mate,

Hard labour, trouble,

Unnecessary strife,

Hope lost,

No free and just life.

Then He intervenes,

Hope incarnate,

Born of a virgin,

There at the margins,

Christ, the awaited Messiah,

Living in hiding,

Hounded, surrounded,

God not a bit blinded,

Outworking His mysterious plan,

Liberated captives,

Freedom from bondage and sickness,

Then, Christ is man-handled, mistreated,

God the Son, dies on a Cross cruelly hurt and rejected.

One act, one moment,

Pervading all time,

Hope realised,

Three days later He rises,

Death and sin defeated,

Every curse impotent, broken,

The Devil defeated,

Believers once lost, now transformed,

Overwhelmed by His saturating love,

Servanthood, Suffering, Sacrifice,

Our Salvation,

His regard for the weak, the strong,

All human kind,

He ascends to Heaven,

Pours out Holy Spirit’s refreshing,

Wonders for men, women and children,

God works out His mysterious mending,

Mended and moulded by their Maker,

Rediscovered mutuality,

Recovered reciprocity,

Unburdened, unbound,

Enjoying God-given blessed relations,

True freedom and manifest blessing.

Caged Birds

As I walked through the beautiful gardens of a majestic English city abbey, a glorious statement of the love of long gone generations for their Creator, I became part of the pervasive vibrant peace. The abbey gardens as they should be; open, shared, alive with people of all generations enjoying a perfect summers day. As the satisfying scent of summer flowers filled my lungs my embrace of my surroundings suddenly stalled at the sight of caged birds and in particular doves, who unlike the other loud and lively birds, were cowering in silent protest at the back of their cage unaccepting of their lack of freedom and peace. Through their silent withdrawal they were speaking with clarity to me, their prophetic life song disturbing my hearts peace with the disquiet of my Creator. These doves, symbols of freedom and peace were locked in and limited, their lives diminished just as the Spirit of our Creator is often locked in and limited in the hearts of believers.

Unlike captive birds, we hold our own trust shaped key, through which our Creator gains liberty to our inner-being releasing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control and fullness of life for our blessing and humanities eternal good. Refuse to be held captive by fear and choose to trust your Creator who wants you to enjoy the freedom and fullness of life.
